Electric Motor Testing (480-4160V)
Using the SKF/BAKER AWA-IV
Megger / Baker AWA IV Electric Motor Testing is a predictive static test offered by Advantage Reliability Services Inc. that provides comprehensive, portable motor testing for electric motors, whether large or small (480 – 4160 v). The testing determines the condition of the insulation of the motor in a short period of time, while diagnosing any impending failure trends,
allowing for condition-based maintenance plans which will operate on your schedule.
The Baker Test provides detailed analysis of motor insulation health. The five test it provides are as follows:
-
- Balance Resistance Test
- Insulation Resistance (Megger Test)
- Dielectric Absorption / Polarization Index Test
- Step Voltage Test
- Surge Test
These test will yield numerical measurements that can be used as baseline data and can be trended when future test are performed.
Improve Your Motor Reliability
The AWA IV integrates a wide range of electrical tests which meet high quality standards. This instrument supports all major electric tests in a single field portable unit including the following:
Balance Resistance
Measures resistance imbalance between phases and hard shots between coils either in the same or between phases.
Insulation Resistance (Megger Test)
A spot insulation test to accurately measure insulation resistance of the ground wall insulation.
Dielectric Absorption / Polarization Index Utilizing Megomh Testing
These tests confirm the integrity of the ground insulation system.
Step Voltage Test
Uses higher test voltages than Megohm tests to determine unstable or unusually high leakage currents.
Surge Test Using Pulse Waveform Analysis
Determines the insulation integrity of coil turns to each other.
Test Results
All test results can be saved and stored on the Baker AWA-IV, but they can also be backed up or copied to a server or a desktop PC. The analyzer can store test results in a relational database. Once stored, results are easy to retrieve for generating reports to share with customers. Test results can be presented in context with historical data to identify and monitor trends with a given motor’s condition.
Faulty motor insulation can degrade to the point of causing unexpected motor failures, which in turn can result in costly unplanned downtime of production machinery.
